How to Remove Duplicates from Excel Online
This tutorial explains how to remove duplicate rows from an Excel or CSV file directly in your browser. The process works for simple one-column checks, such as duplicate email addresses, and for multi-column checks, such as matching by name plus phone number.
Upload your Excel or CSV file
Choose a .xlsx, .xls, or .csv file from your computer. The file is read in your browser, and the first worksheet is shown as a preview. If the workbook has multiple sheets, select the sheet you want to clean before choosing duplicate rules.
Select the columns used for duplicate matching
Use all columns when an entire row must match to count as a duplicate. Select custom columns when only certain fields matter, such as email, SKU, order ID, phone number, or customer name.
Choose whether to keep the first or last row
Keeping the first row is best when your spreadsheet is already sorted with the preferred record first. Keeping the last row is useful when newer exports appear later in the file and should replace older entries.
Preview duplicate rows
Preview mode shows how many unique rows will remain and which duplicate rows are expected to be removed. If the result does not look right, adjust the selected columns before processing.
Remove duplicates and download the clean file
Click Remove Duplicates, wait for processing to finish, and download the cleaned spreadsheet. The original file is not changed; the download is a new copy with duplicate rows removed.
Tips for Better Duplicate Removal
- Use a stable identifier such as email, SKU, invoice number, or order ID when one exists.
- Select multiple columns when names alone may not be unique.
- Review blank values before cleaning because empty cells can affect duplicate matching.
- Keep a copy of the original file so you can compare results after cleanup.
